Although the role is deeply technical, it also requires working closely with a diverse and fun group of developers, engineers, traders and researchers. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Research, design, test, and integrate server, desktop, storage, and network hardware for a high performance computing environment. Design, implement, monitor and troubleshoot secure, global UNIX systems geared for research, development and production. Support a team of sophisticated, technical users, including researchers, programmers, production traders, and remote users. Skills and Qualities: Detailed technical knowledge of Unix operating systems, especially Solaris and Linux. Advanced understanding of ZFS, dtrace, single sign-on authentication, network file systems, compilers, debuggers, Puppet, Apache, mysql, package management, networking and security systems. Highly skilled at perl and shell scripting. Understanding and comfort working with 1-CPU notebooks through 48-way servers with 1TB RAM. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage and drive multiple short, medium, and long-term projects. Self-driven, creative, and highly motivated with ability to think clearly under pressure. Communicates clearly and succinctly both verbally and in writing. Familiarity with Windows desirable. Background/Experience: Bachelors Degree or higher 3-4 years technical experience in related field GROUP DESCRIPTION: Morgan Stanley's proprietary Process Driven Trading (PDT) group started in 1993 and has long been considered one of the elite quantitative trading outfits in the world. Process Driven Trading is based on the belief that rigorous scientific investigation can unveil inefficiencies in the financial markets. These inefficiencies are the key to earning consistent profits surpassing market returns. Translating this knowledge into a successful real-world trading strategy requires creativity, mathematical finesse, technical sophistication, and teamwork. Members of PDT focus on quantitative research, systems design, or trade execution. It takes a team of people from all three areas to create a profitable system. Since most trading is automated, PDT is able to focus on new development and longer-term projects. As a result, PDT offices resemble an academic setting much more than a Wall Street trading floor. The group encourages new ideas and an entrepreneurial intensity from everyone. Each member of PDT enjoys an exciting work environment and a sense of ownership in the success of the group. And the culture of PDT remains very down-to-earth and collegial. Newcomers work directly with more experienced colleagues in an atmosphere of respect and mentorship. Diversity of background, experience, and interests defines the group's vitality. People in PDT are often planning events that take advantage of the numerous cultural and culinary offerings found in and around New York City. Process Driven Trading strives to become the pre-eminent proprietary trading group in the world. To do so requires the infusion of new talent dedicated to sharing this same goal. PDT is hiring entrepreneurial, creative individuals who are committed to making a contribution to an already successful team.
