Another normal meeting
- Treasurer's Report
- FY2018 budget
- JFC cut $400 from our new PC budget, and $300 from Demosplash food
- Everything else funded at requested amounts
- We were planning on a $1000 graphics workstation, now it's $600
- Still listed as $500 for the graphics workstation, but $100 for "publicity" to thank Nvidia
- ezh: This was our JFC rep's suggestion, so it probably ran against some policy
- Is $600 enough?
- aliruu: We were probably going to supplement with Gift anyway
- Demosplash is supposed to balance out to zero
- This is the second year in a row it's confused them (though not as bad this time)
- We should probably at least stop putting Demosplash food (or Demosplash altogether) in the budget
Consensus from the room: We got most of what we wanted, don't bother appealing
- Officers should discuss and decide
- Appeals are held this Sunday 16 / Monday 17 April
- JFC cut $400 from our new PC budget, and $300 from Demosplash food
- Power upgrades (deferred from November)
- ezh/tjjohans still need to ask if we can reallocate our remaining capital toward power upgrades
- Need to ask for permission to spend through 30 June and/or rollover to next year due to delays from flood
- Proposal to re-confirm quote with FMCS, then (pending quote) confirm work order for summer
Deferred due to absent officers
NetApp data is probably a good candidate to transition to SuperMicros
- Will reduce our power and cooling budget
- But we'd need appropriately-sized hard disks
- ezh/tjjohans still need to ask if we can reallocate our remaining capital toward power upgrades
- FY2017 capital purchases
- ezh: We basically have two weeks to buy, since approvals take time and purchasing must be done by early May
Things to pick and buy
- Replacement UPS – $300
- Maybe just the batteries
- aliruu is looking into these
- Hardware tools – $100
- Stackable storage bins
- stroucki is looking into these
- Replacement UPS – $300
Things to discuss
- Hard drive replacements – $750
Forget the Dell SSDs discussed earlier; instead try to get bulk storage disks for the SuperMicros
- Because they take standard 3.5" disks as opposed to 2.5", which are available in higher densities (4, 8 TB)
- Rack mount hardware – $100
- Perhaps L21-30 3-way splitter or cable management?
- Network switch – $200
- Needs to be picked out (Dell?), but $200 from the budget doesn't seem to be enough
- We can probably get one for ~$350–400, though
- Hard drive replacements – $750
Things to (attempt to) reallocate
- Rack hardware – $1,000
- Try to get this reallocated to power, and request permission to spend through 30 June and/or rollover
- RAM replacement – $250
- We don't particularly need this
- Try to get it rolled into network switch?
- Rack hardware – $1,000
- FY2018 budget
- Tomorrow is aliruu on Modern CPU Architectures
- Food
- If anyone wants novel specialty pizzas, email fseidel@ by 12:00 Wednesday and we'll consider trying it out
- Storage
- Still need to coordinate transfer of bins
- Need to see if the extra bins will bump us up to four pallets (extra $75/year)
