New members' open house debrief

• Went well
• Much easier to manage ~30 people instead of ~63
  • Two weeks instead of one
  • A lot of other clubs punted to the same day as us because of HackCMU
  • Activities Fair felt less attended than previous years
    • But we got about the same number of names
    • May have just been the more spacious venue
  • Still, a lot easier to keep the attention of 30 people
• Presentations went better, too
• Had a few people say they'd be here for the GBM today, but none are here right now
  • One showed up later, first-year physics major
• Feedback:
  • ezh: After the spiel, people started clustering; may have lost some in the 5-10 minutes after pizza
    • fseidel: Though the people who are going to leave after ~5 minutes idle time following a ~20-minute presentation are probably not staying anyway
• ezh already gave his reimbursements/receipts to copetas

• ezh: Got an email from Tiffany Priester (SLICE) asking if we'd been charged anything yet — Nope
• tparenti: Last checking was 8 Sep; will continue poking FMS fortnightly until he hears something, can liaise if necessary

• We want something a little more explicitly engaging this week (23 Sep)
  • fseidel: A few people asked "how do you write a demo?"
    • Dig up source code to WHATPG? kbare/lroop helped write it, and it's mostly straightforward C
    • Will email kbare about a potential code walkthrough on 23 Sep
  • fseidel: mdille will be in town 30 Sep, could talk about how Contrib works then
    • tparenti can talk about what it is the week before (23 Sep) as a preface
  • Someone talked about neural nets
    • Since we're building our compo machine, could we timeshare it at other times?
