Bandwidth Exemptions
Contrib webservers
Contrib webserver front-ends have bandwidth exemptions. Right now, this means 4 exemptions (one for non-SSL, one for SSL). The rough schedule for expirations/renewals is:
- www1: 10/21
- www-contrib1: 10/22
- www2: 7/10
- www-contrib2: 7/10
We get notices once a year as exemptions expire and require renewal. Exemptions can be requested and renewed at https://www.cmu.edu/computing/network/bandwidth/request/index.html.
How to fill out that form:
Your name: <your name> (Computer club <title>)
- ...other obvious stuff...
- What kind of traffic: Contributed webserver traffic
- Why an exemption is needed: This is an exemption renewal for one of four total IPs used by our two contributed webserver front-ends (2 IPs for each due to SSL stupidity). These, as the name suggests, host www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu.
- How long: Maximum; I guess that means 1 year
Freenode
- Renewal: 12/18

Freenode IRC server Duration:..... 1 year Reason: We are hosting an IRC server for the Freenode network. Freenode provides discussion facilities for the Free and Open Source Software communities, for not-for-profit organizations and for related communities and organizations.

- nntp: 1/14
Note!
We seem to have confused them very badly whatwith several machine renames and MAC changes. When renewal notices come in, check the MAC address and renew if it matches one of the above (using our IP->MAC mapping). Feel free to correct an incorrect hostname at the time too.
